Impact that lasts: The Umckaloabo Foundation creates perspectives through education
2025-10-09
Since its founding by the Schwabe Group in 2010, the Umckaloabo Foundation has been committed to improving educational opportunities in South Africa, Zambia, and Malawi. Over the past 15 years, the Foundation has invested more than €7 million, giving over 50,000 children access to education—and with it, a chance at a life with brighter perspectives.
Celebrating 15 years of impact ...
To mark this anniversary, project partners, supporters, Africa Runners, donors, and sponsors gathered at the Schwabe visitor center Terra Medica. Uwe Bothur, a member of the Foundation’s board, led a moving retrospective through the milestones and developments since 2010. The event was a space for discussion, inspiration, and shared commitment.
... and looking ahead
And of course, our focus remains on the future. For the anniversary year, the Foundation set itself an ambitious goal: building a new secondary school in Choma, Zambia. The newly planned school will be the first time that many children from the rural town of Choma can receive an education.
The 15th anniversary of the Umckaloabo Foundation motivates us to continue working with our partners to create better educational opportunities for children and young people in southern Africa. Because good education creates opportunities.
