Schwabe Group Honors Prof. Paul Spagnuolo and Dr. Lorenz Waltl for Outstanding Research

The Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research (GA) has made its decision, and we are delighted to announce the recipients of the 2026 Dr. Willmar Schwabe Award and Young Talent Prize, recognizing outstanding contributions to natural product and phytotherapy research.
🏆 Dr. Willmar Schwabe Award 2026: Prof. Paul Spagnuolo (University of Guelph, Canada)
Prof. Spagnuolo is honored for his groundbreaking research on naturally derived bioactive compounds that target and inhibit cancer cell fatty acid oxidation, opening promising new avenues for the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
🌱 Young Talent Prize 2026: Dr. Lorenz Waltl (Medical University of Innsbruck, Austria)
Dr. Waltl is recognized for his innovative investigations into the therapeutic potential of natural products through mechanistic and translational phytopharmacology, exemplified by his work on diterpenoids from Mitrephora glabra.

The Dr. Willmar Schwabe Award (€10,000) and the Dr. Willmar Schwabe Young Talent Prize (€2,000) will be presented during the 74th International Congress and Annual Meeting of the Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research (GA) in Reims, France. Bringing together more approx. 500 scientists from around the world, the congress provides a unique platform to discuss the latest discoveries and innovations in natural product research.
